The history of Moncenisio
Before the Second World War, the village was called Ferrera Cenisio. Its maximum extension dates back to 700 when the Moncenisio pass was an obligatory passage for those who had to cross the Alps. Numerous hotels, restaurants (then called “locande” -inns-) gave hotel to travelers who sought refreshment, accommodation, and the exchange of horses.

The most frequent activity was the work of porter performed by the Marrons: strong men who with the Ramasses (the carriers at that time), carried the rich gentlemen, who could afford it, on the other side. Brigandage was also a common activity.
Moncenisio, for its “strategic” location, has lived countless conflicts already from the Roman history to reach the last two World Wars. Walking the various routes around, you can find remains of these wars and immerse yourself in its incredible history.
Fishing for Mountain Trout
As a pastime during the holiday, or even for a day trip to the hotel Chalet on the lake, trout fishing is certainly very popular. For lovers of fishing in the mountains, or for those who approach fishing just because, guest of the hotel, wants to spend some time in contact with nature, is definitely very fun. The offer of the place is definitely valid. Here are the proposals and alternatives that you will find in the surroundings.
CENISCHIA STREAM
Fishing is possible only with the government license. The trout of this stream are the best you can catch. Their meat has a unique quality. They are not very big, but taste one is worth it.
DELLA FOPPA LAKE
It is open to the public and members. During the room reservation you can buy, in a simple way, also the Fishing voucher. Booking the voucher you do not have the obligation of membership, also on request (to be reconfirmed), you can have a free complete equipment per room. For those who are not our customers, it is planned to purchase the membership card of the US Susa and fishing vouchers on site (wooden house near the lake).
LAKE OF MONCENISIO (THE DAM)
Possible to fish in the large lake with daily permits available on site. The trout of this lake are delicious and have a peculiarity: unlike other trout, they have a blue back.
LAKE GRANDE (BELOW THE CHALET)
It is a private fishing reserve. Only members of the Pesca Ferrera Group can fish. The number of members is closed. Fishing in this lake is very easy, for this reason not very rewarding. Currently no other members are allowed. For further information, look for the Pesca Ferrera Group on the white pages.
